Composed of a trio of Southern California artists, Lux Umbra is a collective devoted to inquisitive material engagement, perspectival considerations, sensory fluidity, and a profound enmeshment with the natural world. With a special focus on the generative nature of opposing forces, each artist interprets endpoints and their gradients—gravity and weightlessness, ancient and just-born, light and shadow. Attention to contrasts lets us know a thing by its opposite and introduces dimensional sensitivity. By attending to what is both seen and known and unseen and unknown, worlds of possibility billow out from each artist’s hands and minds inviting viewers to become more nuanced and aware.
